Recofloor Newsletter 30 - October 2015

Recofloor announces winners of the Love2shop summer promotion

Congratulations to:

  • Ashmount Flooring Supplies, London
  • Birch Distribution, Sheffield
  • S & D Flooring Specialists, Hull

Each of these companies won a Love2shop Voucher pack worth £100 in the draw. Every flooring company raising a Recofloor collection during August 2015 and returning a minimum of either two full bulk bags or two full blue bins qualified for the prize draw. Throughout the month, a total of 37.5 tonnes in 43 collections were collected for recycling – one of the busiest months so far this year.

Birch Distribution’s Branch Manager, Nigel Maude comments:

“July and August were very busy for us because of school and college projects generating larger volumes of off-cuts. More fitters are coming on board with vinyl flooring recycling and once our new showroom is ready, we’re planning to hold a Recofloor event to generate even more awareness of the scheme.”

One of Recofloor’s newest members, S&D Flooring Specialists in Hull, is already benefiting from the ‘cost-effective’ collections. Accounts Manager Gail Andrews says:

“For what it costs, it’s really good and as the waste vinyl is collected, it’s something you don’t have to worry about. It’s also good for the environment and we are doing our bit to help.”

As one of the first flooring distributors to join the scheme and a busy drop-off site, Ashmount Flooring Supplies is finding its vigorous promotion of the scheme is paying off. "It’s working really well and fitters are coming in on a daily basis requesting new collection bags,” says Ron Burkett, Ashmount Flooring Supplies Managing Director.

“Advertising Recofloor on our price lists, monthly flyer and in our shop has helped to grow awareness and the word soon gets around. The fitters love it as they have a convenient and lower-cost recycling option for their vinyl flooring waste.”

Waste Carrier Licences - A Reminder

For Contractors in the UK

You should have a lower tier waste carrier’s licence to transport your own waste. Registration is free and renews automatically.

For Contractors in the Republic of Ireland

If the waste is transported in a smaller, non-skip vehicle of less than 1 tonne gross axle weight, then you do not require a waste collection permit.

For Distributors in the UK

If you have a drop off-site and regularly collect your customers waste to bring back to your site when your drivers are delivering new flooring, you will need an upper tier waste carrier’s licence.

This costs between £135 and £174 depending on where your main place of business is and needs to be renewed every 3 years. Registration can also be completed online.

Note: The rules on permits and licences vary slightly depending on which part of the country your main business is.
