Altro keep snow and sleet out

Herning Station in Denmark has 1.5 million visitors annually, arriving in all weathers. For 25 years Altro safety flooring has been used on the many platforms at the station. Flooring contractor Preben Nørfeldt believed there were three factors that were crucial when selecting the flooring for the busy railway station.

“The floor should be slip-resistant, durable, and it should look good,” says Preben Nørfeldt from Nørfeldt Flooring in Herning.

The floor speaks for itself after being laid more than 25 years ago. “There are a lot of people at Herning Station every day, so durability was extremely important when considering what flooring to use. It is not a place where you have time to make many repairs, and we have only had to perform few repairs on the slip-resistant flooring from Altro in the more than 25 years the floor has been there,” says Preben Nørfeldt.

Another important factor in the choice of flooring was slip resistance. Although the corridors are covered, there are often large daily temperature fluctuations, which can range from -10°C in the morning to more than 20°C in the middle of the day. This means that there may be a need to use salt on the roads, exposing the floors to both salt and slush.
