Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen, established in 1868 as a manufacturer of saws for woodworking, has developed into the world market leader for power transformers. With 34 subsidiaries and five affiliated companies globally, it has 3200 employees worldwide.

In the global headquarters in Regensburg, the canteen tiled walls needed to be modernised. They required a solution that would meet hygiene requirements.

“The renovation needed to be undertaken whilst the canteen was in operation, and it was essential we minimise dust and dirt. A particular challenge was that we were updating the dining room at the same time,” said Franz Sieber, Head of Facility Management at Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen.

During an internet search Sieber encountered Altro, the market leader of safety flooring and hygienic wall cladding. These sustainable solutions are certified by HACCP International, the international system for food safety.

The Facility Management of Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen chose Altro Whiterock Satins in Linen, from the 27-colour palette.

Altro Whiterock Satins is made of a high-quality, food-safe PVCu. It can withstand temperatures up to 60°C, making it particularly suitable for use in commercial kitchens.

“We quickly found PVCu wall cladding is the better alternative to tiles,” said Sieber. “The wall cladding is hygienic, scratch and impact resistant. It is waterproof, protects the substrate and is easy to clean.”

“Altro Whiterock completely fulfilled our hygiene needs,” said Franz Sieber. “The construction was completed quickly and we were able to maintain the kitchen operation during the refurishment. The life expectancy and characteristics of the wall cladding made it the most cost-effective solution.”
