Letchworth-based interior surfaces specialist, Altro, has won a national award for its company wide approach to health and safety in the workplace.
Altro scooped a Gold Occupational Health & Safety Award from RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. The annual RoSPA awards promote best practice in UK companies and seek to encourage good management systems to reduce the number of accidents and cases of ill health at work.
This year’s awards were presented at a special ceremony during the Safety & Health Expo 2006, the UK’s premier health and safety at work exhibition.
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said, “Altro has demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead by providing a positive example.”
Richard Kahn, Chief Executive of Altro, said: “As the original founders of safety flooring more than half a century ago, we are committed to promoting health and safety in the workplace, and are particularly proud that our achievements have been recognised.”
The 2006 RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards were sponsored by NEBOSH, the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health. The awards were presented at a gala dinner hosted by the President of RoSPA, Baroness Anne Gibson of Market Rasen, with television personality, Ronnie Corbett, as guest speaker.
