Giving Something Back
As a company we are committed to social responsibility, which it is why it is one of the pillars of our 6 Steps programme. Our listing in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for 2011, making it the 6th year in a row we have received the award, is in part recognition of this fact.
This year we have made a positive decision to strengthen that commitment, which is why we have launched our “Giving Something Back” campaign whereby staff are given 6 hours of company time to volunteer in the local community. It's our way of giving something back to the local communities in which we work.
Many Altro Group employees are already involved in volunteering activities in their own time. We have staff from right across the business already involved in Scouts, School Governors, Territorial Army and various other charities and community activities. Many employees have also taken the opportunity to take part in the “Giving Something Back Campaign.” Volunteering activities that people have been involved in have included; organising outdoor activities for children with behavioural problems, working in a local hospice shop, organising youth rugby tournaments and fundraising for local charities. Staff have also decorated a local Arts Centre, erected a shed for adults with learning difficulties and organised Easter trails for the National Trust.
Lisa Barry, an Accounts Assistant at Altro volunteered to work in the local Garden House Hospice shop, a charity close to her heart. Lisa “enjoyed the day so much, I must have made a good impression as I have been asked if I would like to go back!”
Irene Coldrey, Reception Services Team Leader volunteered to take children, many with behavioural problems on an activity weekend. “I found the whole experience very rewarding and had a fun weekend.”
Volunteering is a great opportunity for self development and has proved to be a very rewarding experience for those who have taken part in the “Giving Something Back” campaign.
