Altro Working With Herts Fire And Rescue Services

Tuesday 13 March 2012

The tower crane which has been standing tall above the Altro site, due to the renovation works being carried out, is soon to be put to good use by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Services.

On Saturday 17th March, a run through of a crane exercise will be taking place.  A dummy will be placed in the operator's cab of the crane and the local fire crews will be deployed to scale the crane, assess the dummy (casualty) and then begin the process of lowering the casualty.

On the day there will be numerous appliances in attendance at the exercise, all of which will be controlled by Fire Service Officers on scene.

Andy Springett, Watch Commander at Baldock said, 'As you can imagine, we are unable to carry out this type of exercise very often. It's great to make use of these cranes so our crews can get as much practice as possible in case a real life emergency like this should ever occur, so we thank Altro for giving us permission.'

Jon Tann, Manufacturing Manager at Altro said, 'As soon as we were approached by the Fire Services, we knew we wanted to help put. As this is taking place over the weekend, this exercise will not hold up the building works, we were delighted to help out.'
