Altro On The Way To Green Glory

Altro has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities. The company has won the award for its ‘6 Steps to Sustainability Programme’, which strives continually to reduce the impact Altro products have on the local community and the wider world.
Altro has competed against more than 500 other nominations and will be presented with their Green Apple Award at a glittering presentation ceremony in the House of Commons on 14 November.
As a result of this success, Altro has been invited to have its winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their experience.
Altro will also be considered to represent England in the European Business Awards for the Environment.
The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.
The awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising and promoting environmental best practice.
Judges for the Green Apple Awards are drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
Sustainability
Altro’s ‘6 Steps to Sustainability’ programme was launched in 2008 and is a holistic approach to managing sustainability issues. The six steps are:
All Altro safety flooring is 100% recyclable and contains post-consumer waste as an integral raw material. Some Altro safety flooring products have up to 20% and some resin products up to 30% recycled content.
Altro is one of two founder members of Recofloor – the vinyl flooring industry’s take back scheme for post-use vinyl – which launched in September 2009. As the first manufacturer capable of recycling safety flooring in-house, Altro collects and recycles all the safety flooring on behalf of Recofloor, irrespective of manufacturer.
