General & Technical Flooring: Old Machar School
Awarded for: Overcoming damp subfloor conditions, supporting client’s recycling/sustainability focus and bringing the project in on time to a high standard.
A flood-damaged floor in the Old Machar School’s canteen area required 360m² of new flooring. Scott Milne, of General & Technical and Colin Kemp, architect for Aberdeen City Council, recommended Altro XpressLay as a solution to overcome the damp subfloor issue. The moisture content of the floor, post-flooding, was up in the 90s. The City Council, driven by recycling and sustainability, approved the installation of Altro XpressLay, based on its BRE A Rating and the fact that it is fully recyclable at the end of its life. An added bonus was that the damp subfloor issue could be overcome quickly and easily with the floor installed during the summer shutdown with no disruption to the start of the new school year.
