Two of Altro's leading edge safety flooring products have been specified at Dawson Mine in Queensland, 200 km from Gladstone. Dawson Mine is operated by Anglo Coal Australia, a subsidiary of the UKbased giant Anglo American PLC.
Over 2000 m2 of Altro Suprema and Timbersafe have been used throughout the administration block, which is situated right within the mining precinct itself.
The prevailing conditions of the open cut mine are relentless as many workers walk between the mine itself and the Administration Block. This provides a constant barrage of abrasive material for the floor to withstand.
The 2 Altro products have been able to achieve the designer's intention of allowing some light, colour and contrast into an otherwise drab and barren Australian outback. All this while providing a much harder-wearing alternative to other forms of flooring.
Altro Timbersafe was used in the canteen and the main corridors that provide passage between there and outside's harsh conditions.
With such a large floor plan (50 x 60 metres, and accommodating over 200 people), the interior designer has looked to break up the open plan with the various colours of Altro Suprema.
Constructed without the 'industrial looking' sparkle of typical safety flooring, but still using hard-wearing aggregate for extra durability and slip resistance, Altro high design ranges give designers more options.

"I chose Altro for the Dawson Mine Project because of its great lifecycles and the ability for the products to last in such a harsh environment. With Altro Suprema and Timbersafe I was also able to deliver an aesthetic design scheme to my client giving me the best of both worlds."
