Altro Aquarius is a technological breakthrough in safety flooring because it delivers guaranteed performance in wet or dry conditions for combined shoe and barefoot use – including hard soled, rubber and training shoes. This makes the product ideal for healthcare applications.

Altro Aquarius has been installed throughout a newly-refurbished ward at the hospital, performing in both wet and dry conditions in the unit's shower and toilet area.

A spokesperson from the Estates team at the hospital commented: "The shower and toilet area on the ward incorporates a wet room as well. This means that the floor is constantly going from wet to dry, which has serious safety implications. Patients can be frail and therefore unsure on their feet, they are often barefoot, or wearing slippers and the staff wear a range of soled shoes."

In the shower and toilet areas, Altro Aquarius was installed in conjunction with Altro Whiterock hygienic wall cladding. Together, these two products are ideal for use in areas where safety and hygiene are critical and that might be used wet or dry, bare footed or wearing shoes. Both product ranges include integral Altrosan bacteriostat, which does not support the growth of MRSA and similar organisms.

At Bristol Royal Infirmary, Altro Aquarius and Altro Whiterock were installed by English County Contracts. David Stephens, the Contracts Director said: " We installed 210m² of Altro Aquarius alongside 250m² of Altro Whiterock wall cladding. Both are very easy products to work with, even in confined spaces. We also used a new adhesive, AltroFix 19 Plus, to fix the Altro Aquarius in place. This is a solvent and water-free, two-part polyurethane adhesive that is resistant to water."

As with all hospitals, ongoing cleaning and maintenance are top priorities for the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Altro Aquarius features Altro Easyclean Maxis PUR technology, which means it's both easy and cost effective to clean, while still looking good long-term.
