Bedford Modern School Sixth Form Facility & Refectory

Altro Cooks Up Another Class Act at Bedford Modern School

Due to open its doors for the 2006/7 academic year, the new Sixth Form Facility and refectory at Bedford Modern School is a striking, purpose-built centre housing state-of-the-art equipment designed to assist students in their transition from A-level to undergraduate study. An important and major investment, the school turned to trusted supplier Altro to provide a wide variety of interior surfaces in the new building.

Architects The Inskip Partnership worked with flooring contractor Equinox Flooring Solutions Ltd to create a wide range of striking surfaces within the new Sixth Form Facility using a variety of Altro floor and wall coverings in different areas of the building.

Altro Stronghold safety flooring in russet has been used with Altro Whiterock wall cladding in the refectory kitchens to give durable and easy to clean surfaces, ensuring high levels of hygiene and slip resistance are maintained in the food preparation and serving areas.

Making a strong statement in the entrance to the building, the school’s red eagle logo has been created using Altro Impressionist flooring. The circular rooms feature Altro Maxis Suprema safety flooring, using the Aphrodite and Orpheus colours to create a two-tone circular pattern in blue and pale grey which mirrors the ceiling design. Suprema has also been used in corridors, stairways and in the dining room.

“We’ve built a strong relationship with Altro over the years, and they were our natural choice to supply floor and wall coverings for our new centre. We’re very proud of our new facility with its stunning architecture, and knew that Altro would provide an equally eyecatching interior.”
